DEMOCRACY OF THE

PEOPLE
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi

Part of the book called All Men are

Brothers

Sayings/Quotations of Gandhi about the

democracy and the People

The true source ofrightsisduty. If we

all discharge our duties, rights will not be
far to seek.

Individual freedom can have the fullest

play only under a regime of
unadulterated ahimsa.

Willing submission to social restraint for

the sake of the well-being of the whole
society enriches both the individual and
the society of which one is a member.

My idea of society is that while we are

born equal, meaning that we have a
right to equal opportunity, all have not
the same capacity.

Differences of opinion should never

mean hostility.

The truth is that power resides in the

people and it is entrusted for the time
being to those whom they may choose
as their representatives.
