3 D printing

By cullen parker

What is 3D printing?
A process of making athreedimensionalsolid object of virtually any
shape from adigital model.
Contrary to popular belief it does not mean
to fold paper to make a 3D object.

History of 3D printing
The first working 3D printer was created in
1984 by Charles W. Hull of 3D Systems
Corp.
Hull published a number of patents on the
concept of 3D printing, many of which are
used in todays additive manufacturing
processes(3D printing process)
3D printing didnt become popular till 2010

How Does it Work

Produce a 3D model
using CAD or a 3D
scanner

What are you

printing?

Start the
printing
Send the 3D model to
the computer that is
connected to the
printer
Set up the printer

Let printer will start

to print the object
which can take up to
a couple hours

Printing
3D printers uses rolls of plastic filament in
order to print
The filament comes out of the nozzle as a
gooey plastic and hardens quickly
The nozzle goes over the object that is
being printed and releases the filament
layer by layer until the object is finished

What can 3D printing be used

for
Mainly 3D printing is used to create
prototypes for companies making a new
project
It can also be used for recreational purposes
like making an action figure of yourself
Although it has many purposes, some still
being developed.

Body Parts
3D medical bioprinters use a gel-like
substance made from stem cells
It is possible to print skin grafts, bone
fragments, and even kidneys. Kidneys have
already been printed but are not
functioning.

Food
NASA has funded the project to print food,
in order to feed astronauts while they're in
space.
Unlike a normal 3D printer this 3D printer
has three nozzles so it can print from 3
different cartridges, Pizza was the first
printed food

3D Printing Pens
Lix has recently developed a new 3D pen
Unlike other 3D pens this actually looks like
a pen
you draw with the pen, except you dont
need paper
The pen melts and cools the plastic so you
can draw anything 3-dementionally
The capabilities all depend on how steady of
a hand you have

Summary
3D printing is the process of making
3dimensional objects
You can print almost anything
You can print organs and food
3D printing also comes in pen option
