Our Solar System

Please research and find out more about the planets in our solar system. Please
include where you found the information.

Sun:

Mercury:

The Romans called the sun Sol. The sun

is also a star. The sun was born in vast
in a cloud of gas and dust around 5
billion years ago. The sun is around
10,000 degrees. Because the Sun is so
large compared to everything else, it is
easily able to hold on to the rest of the
matter, causing everything else to orbit
around it.

Mercury is the smallest planet in our

Solar System and it is the nearest
planet to the Sun. Mercury is one of the
Rocky planets like Venus, Earth and
Mars. One year in Mercury is 88 Earth
days. Mercury is named after a Roman
god. Maximum temperature in Mercury
is 465C and minimum is 184C, the
distance from Sun to Mercury is 57
million kilometer. Mercurys gravity is
much less than the Earth. You can see
Mercury early in the evening or early in
the morning.

Please research and find out more about the planets in our solar system:

Jupiter:

Venus:

Jupiter is the largest planet on our Solar

System. There is a lot of storms
happening in Jupiter. There was one big
red dot in Jupiter but now there is two,
they call it the eye of Jupiter. Jupiter
is known as Zeus in Greek. The Earth
can fit in Jupiter more than 1000 times.

Venus is the second nearest planet to

the Sun and it is very hot, hotter than
Mercury. It is one of the rocky planets.
Venus is the Roman goddess of love
and beauty. Venus has atmosphere like
the Earth. Sometimes they call Venus
Earths twin. There is today very little

water left in Venus.

Mars:

Saturn:

We call Mars red planet as well. Mars

was the Roman god of war and
agriculture. The scientists tell that we
can live in Mars and they also tell that
there might be life on Mars. Mars has 2
moons, there name Deimos and
Phobos.

Saturn is the only planet who has a ring

around it. It is the second largest planet
in our Solar System. In many ways
Saturn is similar to Jupiter but much
smaller. Saturn has 53 moons.

Neptune:

Uranus:

This planet was discovered by Johann

Galle and Heinrich D Arrest in 1846.
Neptune is the smallest planet of our
Solar System. In Neptunes atmosphere,
there is a large white cloud that moves
around rather quickly. When Voyager 2
visited Neptune, its pictures showed a
giant storm much like the storm on
Jupiter. Neptune: Neptune has six rings
which circle the planet. Neptune has 13
moons that we know of.

Uranus is a very cold planet. Like Jupiter

and Saturn, Uranus is a gas giant. They
were believing that long time ago a
very large object smashed into this
planet. The crash was so powerful that
it completely changed the direction of
Uranus. The thick atmosphere of
Uranus is made of a methane, hydrogen
and helium. Uranus has 27 moons.

Earth:
Earth is the only planet were living
beings lives. Earth is the third planet in
our Solar System. It is the planet were
we live.
