Becoming an Engineer
What they do

Chemical Engineers use knowledge based on the principles of biology,

math, physics, and chemistry in order to create chemical based products.
Chemical based products can be something as vital as medicine,
chemicals, and food to something as simple as the plastic water bottle on
your left. Chemical Engineers create procedures and equipment for the
manufacturing of chemical based products, plan and conduct methods of
manufacturing products, treat byproducts, create safe and sustainable
manufacturing, and supervise production.

Work
Environment

Chemical engineers may spend available time in industrial plants,

refineries, or something of the like in order to supervise, conduct
operations, or to fix problems onsite. However, most chemical engineers
work in either an office or a laboratory. In this field, a chemical engineer
must cooperate with either a mechanic or a technician, those who place a
notion into practice, to be successful.

How to
become one

A bachelors degree in chemical engineering is required to become a

chemical engineer. Chemical engineers must also have a degree from an
engineering program (accredited by A.B.E.T.), A passing score on the
Fundamentals of Engineer and Professional Engineering exam, and work
experience.

Demand Comparison

Chemical engineering is in demand, perhaps not as much as others such as

petroleum or biomedical engineering, but a significant amount. Petroleum engineering,
plastic engineering, and even biotechnical engineering is a type of chemical engineering,
both apply similar concepts except in different work fields. Despite the demand, chemical
engineering will soon grow in demand as the need for medications arise. As the workforce
grows, needs can change depending on varying factors such as location and cost.
Therefore chemical engineering is in low demand compared to biomedical and petroleum
engineering, but is average compared to many other types of engineering.

Comparing Salaries by Location

The cost in living depends on how much one earns daily. The cost for something in
Pittsburgh, PA must be more in order to meet their demands compared for the cost in
Austin, TX. In Austin, TX one earns more money as they start out but gradually gain more
as they gain experience. On in Pittsburgh earns less than one in Austin and must work
harder in order to sustain a living. The salary changes because employers are more likely to
give more to one who knows how to complete a task at a high level. The salary also
changes by location because of the demand for Chemical engineering.

Compare Salary by Education

Having a variety of degrees can guarantee a better job opportunity. As salary changes with
experience a better level of education can provide a better chance at earning a good living.
Different amounts of education can either provide uncertainty to one with a minimal amount
of education. Each type of degree is beneficial to have the opportunity to have certainty.
Therefore, a better education could provide a better job opportunity and more options to
what one can accomplish.
