General Description of Chemical Engineering

Chemical Engineering, otherwise known as an engineering that is focus on the
design and operation of industrial plants, technology used for chemical production, and the
manufacture of products through a chemical processes. Chemical engineering is widely
understood as applying chemistry to an industrial process. From Marie Curie, the one who
pioneered radioactivity research, to Rosalind Franklin, the woman who used x-ray
crystallography to see the structure of DNA, chemical engineering is in fact a popular form
of engineering.
Engineering in general is too broad of a subject to simply state. Sure, engineering is
a field of work, but the type of engineering one may go into is one of the many subjects of
engineering. A particular area of engineering is much more narrow from that subject as well.
Just as Indias caste system itself is separated into different classes called jati and how an
animal is classified into a kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, and species,
engineering is narrowed down as well. Chemical engineering has a wide range of fields to
choose from. Fields such as Bioprocesses, Chemical process, Combustion, Environmental,
Mineral, Petrochemical, Petroleum, Process Control, and Project Delivery, Biochemical,
Natural Science and Pharmaceutical engineer area few of the many types of fields one can
dive into.
Natural science engineers work in a field that studies the laws of nature such as
biology, chemistry, and physics. Bioprocesses Engineers are the engineers that work in food
and drink industries. Chemical processes engineers work in a field that involves the fertilizer
industry, pesticides and herbicides, caustic soda, glass and specialty chemicals.
Combustion engineers work with manufacturing of steel, power generation from coal or gas,
or energy recovery from waste. Environmental engineers work with waste and water
treatment, environmental regulations and recycling, and the recovery and reuse of
materials. Mineral Engineers work in a field that involves mineral industries. Petrochemical
Engineers work in a chemical engineering field that converts oil and gas into plastics and
synthetic rubber. Process Control Engineering is what the name implies: it is where one
works with the instrumentation and control systems which dictate whether or not a
manufacturing process run smoothly, safely and efficiently. Finally, a Project Delivery
Engineer assists with the conversion of the design of a plant into an operating plant.
The water bottle you are drinking from is most likely made of plastic. If so, then you
can see the fantastic work of a chemical engineer. These are people who works with
chemicals such as plastics or oil. Plastics and oils are used in almost any household
appliance. There is no end to what a chemical engineer can do. From the smallest plastic
water bottle cap to an operating plant, a Chemical engineer is one of the famous areas of
engineering. As a famous subject in the school of engineering, Chemical engineering is also
one of the most vital forms of engineering. Without the engineer who created medicine that
prevents you from getting fatally ill or the bright young woman who managed water
treatment, we would be drinking questionable water and barely survive without medication.
Therefore, Chemical Engineering is another vital field of engineering one can rely on.

Summary of Jobs in Chemical Engineering

Chemical engineers apply their knowledge of chemistry, biology, physics and math to guide their
production in products such as oil products, drugs, food, fuel, or plastics. Chemical engineers also
design equipment used in large scale production such as those used in manufacturing plants.
The laboratory or office area is the natural habitat for Chemical engineers. Some could work in
industrial plants, refineries, oil rigs or other locations where they can have the opportunity to
supervise their peers or their work.
This field is very general. Chemical engineering can have a specialization in a particular category of
chemical engineering such as Petroleum engineering or Plastic engineering. Then there are
categories beyond that. Choosing a category for chemical engineering is very broad and offers many
opportunities.
Geographically, areas such as Texas, California, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Louisiana have a lot
of chemical engineering recruitment opportunities. Chemical engineering is more likely to prosper
with growing technological advances.
