Main features
The ToneLab EX features a power amp circuit that uses a
miniaturetriode12AX7(ECC83)vacuumtubethatisnor
mallyusedinpreamps,generatingthesoundofarealtube
amp,andcapturingthefeelandtoneoftheoriginalampli
fier(Valvetronixtechnology).
Thirtythree amp models using sophisticated modeling
technologyarebuiltin.Therearealsoelevenspeakercabi
netmodels,givingyouaneasywaytorecallsoundsrang
ingfromvintageampsofthepasttoexpensivehighend
tubeamps.
Fourtyfivehighqualityeffectsarebuiltin,allowingyouto
simultaneouslyuseuptonineeffecttypesincludingnoise
reductionandthevolumepedal.

Youcanassignanyoftheelevenstandalonepedalsandad
justvariousparametersusingthecontrolknobsintheamp
section.Inthisway,theToneLabEXenablesyoutocreate
complex,prolevelsoundsfeaturingabundanteffects.
The expression pedal lets you control wah, volume, or
manyotherparameterswithyourfootagreatassetdur
ingliveperformance.
TheQuickAssignfunctionmakesiteasytoassignparame
tersorotherfunctionstotheexpressionpedal.
TheAmp/Lineswitchensuresthatyoursoundiscorrectly
optimizedwhetheryoureusingaguitaramporlinelevel
systemasyouraudiooutputdevice.Settingthisswitchto
LinewillactivateaTotalEqualizerthatadjuststhetoneof
thefinaloutputsound.
AbuiltinAutoChromaticTunerfeaturesswitchableNor
malmodeandStrobemodeforeasytuning.
If you use a commercially available USB cable to connect
theToneLabEXtoyourcomputer,youllbeabletousethe
ToneLabEXlibrariansoftwareonyourcomputertoman
ageuserprograms,orusetheToneLabEXasaUSBaudio
interface.

There are one hundred preset sounds (four programs in


eachof25banks)thattakeadvantageoftheampsandef
fects,togetherwithonehundredusereditableprograms
(fourprogramsineachof25userbanks),givingyouatotal
oftwohundredprogramsthatyoucanswitchbetweenby
pressingafootswitchwhileyouperform.

e. GAIN control
Thisadjuststhegainoftheselectedampmodelorstand
alonepedal.
IntheOPTIONparametersettingmode,thiscontrolselects
thecabinetmodel.Ifthecabinetmodelisturnedoff,turning
thiscontrolintheOPTIONparametersettingmodewillturn
thecabinetmodelon.
f. TREBLE, MIDDLE, BASS controls
Theseadjustthetoneofthehigh,mid,andlowfrequency
ranges.Thewaythesecontrolsaffectthetonewilldependon
themodelyouveselected.
NOTE: Depending on the selected amp model, there may be
almostnosoundifyouturnallthreeofthesecontrols
tothefarleft.
IntheOPTIONparametersettingmode,theTREBLEcontrol
adjuststhepresence,theMIDDLEcontroladjuststhenoise
reduction,andtheBASScontrolenablesyoutoadjustthe
TotalEqualizerHigh.
g. REVERB knob
Dependingonthepositionoftheknob,thisselectsthereverb
type(SPRING,ROOM,orHALL),andadjuststheamountof

reverbinthemix.Ifyouturntheknoballthewaytotheleft,
thereverbeffectwillbeturnedoff.
IntheOPTIONparametersettingmode,thiscontrolknob
enablesyoutoadjusttheTotalEqualizerLow.

HINT: Youcansetthedelaytimeusingtheprogram14ped

Byholdingdownthisswitchforabouttwoseconds,youcan

againforabouttwoseconds.

Adjusting the sensitivity of the


expression pedal
Iftheminimumandmaximumvaluesoftheparameterare
assignedastheminimumandmaximumvaluesoftheexpres
sionpedal,buttheeffectorvolumefailstoreachthemaxi
mum(orminimum)settingwhentheexpressionpedalisfully
advanced(orreturned),youcanadjustthesensitivityofthe
expressionpedalasfollowssothatitwillfunctionoptimally.
NOTE: When adjusting the sensitivity, you must operate the
expressionpedalwithyourfoot;insomecases,itmay
notbepossibletoadjustthepedalsensitivityifyou
operateitwithyourhand.
