capacity to make up the deficiencies even in one single season and to give a new
direction to the countrys economic progress.

SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY

Science has developed and should develop with a view to helping the people
to find a better life, a happier life, a more peaceful life.

ECONOMIC GROWTH & STABILITY

What we need in our country is on the one hand economic stability, economic
progress and on the other hand a united India.
Lal Bahadur Shastri
The economic issues are most vital for us and it is of the highest importance
that we should fight our biggest enemies-Poverty and unemployment. Whether it is
agriculture or industrial development, or for that matter, development in other
fields, the basic fact remains- that it would serve the largest number of our people.

ARMY MEN
Every child, every man and woman in this country had the deepest respect for the
men of the Indian Army, for the Air Force pilots and other fighters. The whole
country is deeply aware of the sacrifices they have made and cherishes them.

path of peace. But peace cannot be purchased by surrendering our freedom.
Lal Bahadur Shastri
(Address to Jawans in Sialkot sector on October 15, 1965)

If we are united and resolved, if we are able feed ourselves through our own efforts,
if we are prepared for sacrifices to strengthen our defences, I have no doubt that
our Army will be able to defend our freedom wherever that freedom may be
threatened.
