Necessity Collage

Assignment: Assemble a collage of words and images that capture some of the ways in
which “necessity” operates in your life.

Step One: Compile about eight to ten images that for you represent different ways that
you are not in harmony with your world. You can use photographs of your own, or
images from newspapers, magazines, and the internet. In searching for images, think hard
about the deep forces, structures, and circumstances in the world that are antithetical to
who you are as a person, or to your individual plans for being happy.

Step Two: Assemble your collage. Arrange the images and thoughtfully chosen words
and phrases on a poster.

Step Three: On the back of your collage, write a short paragraph in response to the
following question: How does your collage represent the working of necessity in your
life?
