THE COUNTRY
The Slovak Republic is a landlocked country in Central
Europe with a population of more than five million and an
area of about 49,000 square kilometers. Slovakia is a high-
income advanced economy, with the fastest growth rates in
the EU and OECD. It joined the European Union in 2004
and joined the Eurozone on January 1, 2009. Present-day
Slovakia became an independent state on January 1, 1993
after the dissolution of its federation with the Czech Re-
public.
Walter Andrusyszyn has been an Adjunct Profes-
sor at the University of South Florida, where he
began teaching in spring 2007. From January to
May 2009 he was temporarily assigned as Deputy
Permanent Representative to the U.S. Mission to
NATO. He retired from public service at the end
of 2003, after serving at the White House as the
Director for Northern and Eastern European Af-
fairs in the National Security Council (he became
Director in November 2001).
Ms. Elverson is the advisor and coordinator of the
Bulls Business Community (BBC) and will also be
in attendance.
