Explain the causes of the Korean War and how it became a full scale cold war conflict.

Korea was split into North Korea and South Korea along the 38th Parallel after World War II,
with North worshipping Communist and South into Dictatorship. The United States thought
more military power will grow on North if South was left alone, so in 1947 the United Nations
stepped in to try to unite Korea by holding a national assembly, which failed because North
Korea refuse to join the election and end up the election was only held in South Korea. USSR
response to this by installing communist government in the North, sparking off another cold war
tension.
A full scale war took place on June 25th, 1950 when North Korea launched an invasion of the
south as a surprise. North controlled most of South Korea and the capital of Seoul was taken in a
few days. America sent mass amount of troops as response to United Nations order to member
countries; they were in fear of the domino Theory and the spread of communism, making most
troops in South Korea were made up of Americans and equipment were also supplied by the US.
With the effort of General MacArthur, The US forces were able to push North Korea back to
the 38th Parallel until China joined the Soviet Union to help North Korea by sending their troops
there; China worried that US would attack them after they crashed North Korea. As a result,
Seoul was recaptured by North Korea and this went on for a while until February 1951. North
was pushed back to the 38th Parallel when MacArthur was fired by Truman because of too much
military expanses. Truman suggested limited war and the United Nations stepped in in 1953 to
establish a demilitarized zone in 38th Parallel and ended the war.
