A Community Voice Works to Reunite New Orleans at the Community Level

What:

ACV is a community organizing group dedicated to uniting the citys citizens in

order to rebuild and grow better.

Who:

Members of the community step up as leaders and organize their neighborhood

into events, programs, and outreach. Several leaders guide the overall
organization, then it is up to local leadership to enact the larger goals.

Where:

New Orleans, Louisiana is our home base, though we have seen our model in
other cities around the city and state as well. We focus in the Lower 9 th Ward
where the devastation was most prolific and the most problems continue to
grow.

Why:

ACV is a group created to respond to need in our founders backyards. After

Hurricane Katrina in 2005, we realized everyday citizens needed to step up and
solve the issues that officials and FEMA were not going to handle. People were,
and still are, in need of a helping hand.

How:

Our issues are not brought to us by someone who tells us we need to fix them.
We go out and talk to our neighbors, watch whats coming through state
legislation, and reach out to those who do not have a voice. Truly a grassroots
mission, ACV works to defend the defenseless, speak for those whose stories
have not been heard, and support those who deserve to be lifted up.
