Trejo's film career began in 1985, when he "accidentally" landed a role in Runaw
ay Train, playing a boxer for a daily fee of $320. Prior to that, Trejo had serv
ed time in prison on multiple occasions and worked as a drug counsellor after hi
s release. Trejo credits the first movie in which he was given a proper credited
role as Death Wish 4: The Crackdown (1987).[4] He went on to star in a multitud

till Dawn (1996), Con Air (1997), Reindeer Games (2000), and Grindhouse (2007),
among others.[5]
In 2010, Trejo appeared in the Robert Rodriguez-directed exploitation film Mache
te as the main protagonist Machete. It is cited as his "first major film role".[
6] The success of Machete spawned the production of a sequel, Machete Kills (201
3), with Trejo reprising the role of Machete.[1] According to website The Number
s, motion pictures featuring Trejo, either as a leading or supporting actor, hav
e in total grossed more than $2 billion worldwide, not adjusted for inflation.[7
] Trejo has been cast in many television programmes, including Baywatch, where h
e portrayed different characters for different episodes.[8] Other than film and
television appearances, Trejo has also been featured in a handful of music video

.[9] He voiced the character Umberto Robina for the video game Grand Theft Auto:
