Good Qualities of a Leader

Throughout this lesson, we learned many different qualities a leader
can have. These good and bad qualities were shown to us in Oedipus Rex, by
Sophocles. Along with learning these qualities, we were able to put them to
use while we prepared for our debates.
Oedipus and Creon had both good and bad leadership skills. Some
good qualities they had were enforcing the law, treating everyone equally,
being caring, admitting their wrong doings, and taking matters into their own
hands. On the flip side to that, their bad qualities were having egos, being
quick to make an assumption, having a temper, not caring about others
feelings, and not listening to others. After reading Oedipus Rex, we were able
to see how the bad qualities of these leaders led to their downfall. With these
qualities in mind, we were able to prepare more efficiently for our debates. It
helped us know what we should avoid doing while working with the others in
our group.
We didnt just learn good qualities of a leader from Oedipus and Creon;
we also learned several qualities from our debate preparations. Not only did
we learn more qualities, we also were able to use them. While preparing for
our debates, everyone worked together, so there was no official leader. There
was however someone who kept the rest of the group on track. This

person(s) should a good amount of good qualities of a leader. Everyone else
in the groups did to by being responsible for their end of the preparation.
This gave us hands on experience of leadership.
Through these activities, we have not only gained knowledge on
qualities of good leadership, but we have also gained experience in being a
leader. Because of this, we have become better leaders than we were before.
