As I walked down High Street, the bright blues and whites of freshly bloomed flowers grabbed
my attention. The fresh sweet smell brought me even closer as I started to pick the flowers, yet
some of the flowers were guarded with their little thorny stems and deep roots, which started a
game of tug-of-war with the flowers. People like flowers are often guarded and unwilling to
open up yet with determination, patience, and understanding, traits all human services
professionals should have, the deep roots of a person and flowers might loosen up and the
thorny stems might not be so sharp that over time, flowers can be picked and people can be
helped and understood. While gathering the flowers to make a bouquet, the variations of
colors and type of flowers stands out, not one is the same. Just like the wide variation of plants
and flowers, people are all different and bring different perspectives to the world. As a human
services professional, the skills to be able to work together and help all different types of
people is needed. A bouquet of flowers represents natural beauty and individualism, which
shows the variation of flowers and of people. The job of a human services professional to find
the beauty in everyone and help spread it.
