Reflection
The assignment I am most proud of is from my sophomore year
when I had to analyze a speech from John Kennedy. I had been
disappointed before this paper because the whole year I had been
receiving mediocre writing scores. I was able to excel at this essay
because it dealt with some important U.S. history, which I was familiar
with. Also it did not hurt that I had to write about an interesting and
famous president such as JFK. I really enjoy learning about history and
famous speeches so it was easy for me to write about this topic. I was
a lot more focused when reading the article too because I had a lot of
interest in this time era, which was less than a year away from
Kennedys assassination. This assignment really made me proud
because I had been disappointing myself with most of my other essay
scores during the year. This essay boosted my confidence again in
writing and gave me a good grade bump.
The trend that stood out the most to me was in my writing scores.
Throughout my freshman and sophomore years, my writing scores
were average and mostly Bs. As I ended my sophomore year and my
junior year ensued, almost all of my writing scores jumped to As.

Other tendencies I observed were my language and speaking and
listening trends. After all four years, I had been very active in socratic
seminars and received excellent grades in the speaking and listening
category. Also I have consistently received As in language specific
grades. Lastly my two reading categories have remained fairly good
over my high school years.
During freshman year, I maintained my portfolio very well. As my
sophomore year started, my portfolio attention decreased because I
saw no immediate purpose for my freshman portfolio after my first
year of high school. Yet, my portfolio records improved at the start of
junior year because I realized that I needed accurate reports for my
senior project the next year. The portfolio was important because it
revealed my poor writing trends. These trends motivated me to
improve my writing scores over my last few high school years. This
definitely had a huge impact on my English grade junior and senior
year. Also, it seemed like whenever my grades were decreasing, my
score records became less frequent.
Great Oak has prepared me very well for college in ways that I
never expected. My English classes socratic seminars have had a
profound impact on my public speaking and have positively affected
my word enunciation. All the Advanced Placement classes I have taken
through these four years have pushed me to work harder in school and
have prepared me the next step of schooling. Also, during my first year

of high school I was more of an introvert. But as I grew up through
these four years, Great Oak taught me to be involved and outgoing. My
introvert personality certainly has become extrovert as my senior year
comes to a close. Lastly, the teachers have taught me a lot about
respect and how to achieve academic excellence. My educators in high
school motivated me to become the accomplished and well-rounded
student I am today by always encouraging me to turn in work that is
above and beyond expectations.
