Title of Lesson/Unit: Mixed media flower
Grade Level(s): 2nd and 3rd grades
Anticipated Time Needed for the Entire Lesson/Unit: 1 class period

How do artists and designers determine whether a particular direction in their
work is effective?
Content Area Standards:
1st grade- Explore uses of materials and tools to create works of art or design.
2nd grade- Experiment with various materials and tools to explore personal
interests in a work of art or design.

Brief Description of Lesson: Students will add outlines and details over their previously
painted flower compositions.
Scope and Sequence (Ordered Flow of Lesson)

Day 1
Students will come in and sit boy girl boy girl
Teacher will give a demonstration on how to properly use the tempera cakes, how
to use their paintbrushes, and clean their paint brushes between colors.
Students will have paper, paint, brushes, and water passed out to them.
Students will begin painting their flowers.
Students will clean up the last 5 minutes of class (paint brushes away, water
dumped, paints back on table, paintings on drying drack)
Day 2
Students will sit boy girl boy girl
Students will be given their flower paintings previously painted in another class
period.
The teacher will show the students colored pencils, then demonstrate on a flower
painting how to outline the petals and leaves of the flowers.
The teacher will ask students to outline and add detail their flowers.
Students will clean up the last 5 minutes of class (color pencils away, hand
paintings back in)
Accommodations:
The furniture in the classroom will be re-arranged to accommodate behavior
modification in the classroom.
Rules about the sink area will be established and enforced (only 5 people in
line at a time). Squares will be placed on the floor where students will be
asked to stand to wait their turn.
