high power DTH drills

Top penetration
from powerful drills
BUILT FOR ENDURANCE

RC in-pit grade control

High power DTH drills from Sandvik set the standard for
productivity, durability, and cost effectiveness. These machines
are built for continuous drilling in some of the harshest operating environments in the world. Structural strength, easy maintenance, and world-wide support, all maximize drilling time
and keep you on top of your production schedule. Sandvik also
offers the worlds widest range of tools and accessories for DTH
drilling. Equip these drills with products that are renowned for
quality and high performance and you build a drilling system
unmatched in productivity. Choose the right Sandvik rig for your
needs and count on it to perform for years to come.

HIGH PRESSURE - GREATER PENETRATION

The DR500 series offers operating pressures up to 34,5 bar (500

psi) which are especially important in drilling in hard rock as
they maximize the penetration rate. Conversely, when drilling in
softer rock or broken ground, its a huge benefit to have a big air
volume available for flushing the hole. The operator can select
high pressure/low air volume or lower pressure/high air volume
on a switch in the DR500 cabin, while drilling, in order to maximize his drilling needs.

PERFORMANCE FOR APPLICATION EXCELLENCE

DR540

DR560

DR580

The DR540 drill excels in pre-split and in

RC in-pit grade control. The drill delivers
solid drilling performance in smaller hole
sizes for top production. In angle drilling the
articulated boom style mast provides precise
mast feed positioning. It is highly reliable
and its boom-mounted cab is designed for
efficiency.

The DR560 drill excels in production

drilling with higher pressures for large hole
diameters and high altitudes. Independent
track oscillation/machine oscillation allows
movement over rugged terrain and up steep
grades making these top performers for
pioneering in new mine development, RC
in-pit grade control and pre-split drilling.

The DR580 comes equipped with the

highest air pressure in its class. Because of
their high pressure and volume combination
the DR580 drills are excellent operating
at high altitudes. They offer maximum
productivity and maximum penetration in
large hole sizes. Their success has been seen
around the world as leaders in production,
pre-split, RC grade control and horizontal
drilling.

DR500 SERIES DRILLS EXCEED THE LIMITS

Consider Sandvik your source for equipment that meets the

challenges of adapting to rugged mining environments. The
DR500 series drills have proven their worth around the world
from the extreme cold of the Canadian Northwest Territories to
the blazing heat in the mines in Africa. Whatever your application, be it production drilling, horizontal dewatering drilling in
mines, RC grade control, or pre-split drilling the DR500 series
drills deliver. When you offload the drill on your jobsite you
reduce a big part of your scheduling problems. These drills are
rugged, dependable, with downtime at a minimum. Plenty of
power to get the job done. Now you can focus on your real
work.

Maximum drilling performance

productivity from the cab
These drills have solid engine and compressor settings that provide the
right combination for each drilling condition. The engine and compressor
ranges allows for optimized hole flushing and the most power for downthe-hole (DTH) drilling. Operating at lower speeds and load factors
assures longevity. Additional factors like load sensing and fan speed
controls add longevity.

Mesabi cooling package with

engine coolant radiator, aftercooler,
compressor oil cooler, compressor
control line separator and hydraulic
oil cooler. Tested for dynamic cold
flexure resistance at -56C (-70F),
meeting SAE 100R16 performance.
Maximum ambient cooling temperature 52C (125F).

Sandvik hydraulic systems manage

power operation with few moving
parts, produce abundant power, work
under extreme operating conditions,
and are self lubricating.

Rigid single pole masts, articulating boom and heavy

duty pulldown chains are part of the package that
make Sandviks DR500 series DTH drills top performers in a class of their own.

DR500 FEED CONTROL SYSTEM

With the accuracy and cost saving features of the feed control system the DR500 series
DTH blasthole drills offer straighter holes in drilling broken ground
They can greatly improve blasting accuracy over an entire series of blast holes
The boom mounted feed can swing to the precise spot for the hole to be collared, improving
accuracy and hole quality.
With this greater accuracy comes improved efficiency in the drilling and blasting process as well as
the subsequent processes like loading, hauling and rock processing.
24V system with electric/hydraulic controls gives operator access by joystick controls from the
drillers seat for Canbus multiplexing electrical system for full functioning of the drill.
LCD screens for monitoring.

DR500 ADDED ADVANTAGES

Fully independent track oscillation for high mobility on uneven

terrain, such as climbing ramps in quarries, down sloped ground and
across narrow mine benches to put the drill precisely where it is
needed.

DR500 drills are excellent performers in pioneering in Greenfield new mine
projects where they have great flexibility of ingress and egress over rugged
terrain and provide good ground control in the development of new mines.
The independent boom-mounted cab can be leveled and swung

to the optimum location allowing the driller to work in comfort
a safer distance from the working end and away from sheer walls.

An external Auxiliary Maintenance Station is located on the carrier
behind the cabin that allows operation of the drill for tramming and
feed operation of the boom for positioning and drilling functions.
This gives the machine the versatility to be controlled outside away
from the cab in emergency cases or for special applications.
