Additionally, we ask that you rescind your supportof this awed legistation, ‘Asan organization, we believe keeping products safe for our children isa laudable goal, We also believe that New York's private sector employers should be sensibly regulated to protect the public health and environment. Onthe surface, this legislation would seem to fit both rier ‘The truth stat this legislaton is litle more than a catchy slogan, more rhetoric than reality. ‘Worse, the socalled "Toxic Toy" legislation is actually dangerous, fostering a false sense of security for parents and decision makers while doing nothing to make our children safer. From manufacturers to chose businesses a the point o ale, our members care about the quality of ‘thelr products and wholehesrtedly promote efforts to ensure safety. We absolutely believe that chemical rogulation mustbedone na responsible and science-based manne. fortunately, the alleged independent studies promoted by proponents ofthis bill amount to litle ‘more than “junk science", Thelr findings ae the result of skewed analysis that does litle more than show whats ina product rather that how or why the chemical is present. Consider the composition of onganic fruits and vegetaties which we consume in mass quanthies every day. They al contain naturally occurring chemicals, many of which would be banned under the provisions of this bil ‘Are we going to ban pears or apples because they contain natural chemicals ike formaldehyde or Inadaition, this legistation would establish a burdensome, unworkable chemical regulatory program. This duplicative and nonsensieal layer of regulation wil only add to New Yark’s complex chemical laws which are currently stifling economic growth in New York The chemical manufacturing industry s New York’s largest manufacturing sector, representing 9% of total manufacturing employment snd 24% of our state's overall manufacturing shipments, More than 128,000 New Yorkers are enployed by the chemistry industry. Butin recent years New York has seen a decline in chemical minufacturing, dropping from St to 7in the nation. Perhaps ‘you have toured their fcliy or shopped atthe small business that sells their products. Can you ‘vote to close that small business or shutter that manufacturing plant based on political spin and Mlawed science? For these reasons, NFIB/NY opposes 4102 and asks that you promote legislation rooted in facts based which promotes sensible regulatory action.
