Practical Exercise 10: Level Control Loops (On/Off)

The main objective of this practice is to carry out a closed loop control by an on/off
controller. The student will select a value wanted for the level, and the controller will adjust this
control by the closing and opening of the solenoid valve AVS-1, AVS-2, AVS-3 and the
activation of pump 2.
The interface is connected to the equipment and the control software. Inside the software,
the control on/off option is to be selected.
In this experiment, we are to select the desired flow by double clicking the on/off control.
The program allows the user to vary the parameters of certain flow, tolerance and performance
time to see the influence and difference of each one. The level control can be carried out by the
activation of a single actuator, or of several ones, to which different tolerances are allowed.
When the controlled variable exceeds in a tolerance the set value, these controllers works as a
measure security system. To be able to activate and disable each one of these controllers, you
have to double click on each one of them and press the button PAUSE. And before an on/off
response you must calculate the inertia of the system and determine the limit time for an exact
control.
After doing the experiment, we can conclude from the results obtained by the on/off
control on the variable level, we can confirm that the controller used has an acceptable result, it
is because of the variation of magnitude under a small interference is slow. We can obtain a level
control close to the set value if we take small values in the performance times and in the
tolerances.
