Honor SPES
Statement: Honor could be defined as the willingness of living up to
your word. Honor in this time was something of great importance. If
one fled from a battle of fight it would seem that you are a coward and
there for dishonorable. This could also be seen as a sort of pride.
Proof: When Brutus army is about to lose Brutus does not flee but
fights until the last possible moment then rather be capture and
publically shamed or executed he takes his own sword and kills
himself. In that time it would have seemed as the honorable thing to
do.
Explain: Brutus choose the most honorable possible way out of the
situation. Brutus kills himself with his own sword, which is significantly
more difficult than having someone do it for you. The way Brutus
choose to die was probably the most painful possible suicide.
Synthesis: Honor in our society tends to be a very out dated term
being there so much technology to make our lives easier. Honor back
Ancient Rome tended to be a person choosing the most difficult path.
The society we currently live in does not emphasize such a concept. In
fact, the opposite is encouraged. Businesses will drain you down to
your last coin without a single drop of remorse. Honor has become
antiquated.
