The Species at Risk Act (SARA) is a federal law with three main goals to prevent
endangered or threatened species from becoming extinct, to help in the recovery of endangered species, and to manage species of special concern to help prevent them from
becoming endangered or threatened.
The Government of Canada specially selects the list of SARA and then focuses on
reaching their goals to stop the extinctions by creating specific recovery plans for the animals. For example, Fundy researchers are doing there best to increase the population of
the Atlantic salmon by bringing the salmon to breeding facilities at the Mactaquac Biodiversity Facility then introducing new salmon to Fundy each year.
