2 Gain of MCW --- Needs to be investigated.

600 : In 10 Mhz Bandwidth there are 50 PRBs = 50*12subcarriers = 600 Subcarriers

1/14 : Pilot Subcarrier ratio (Excluding Pilot inside control channel) : There are 168 Resource
elements in one sub frame ..therefore in 5ms there are 5 subframes = 5* 168 =840 REs.
Also total no of pilot reference signals in one subframe excluding control channel = 12
Therefore 12 * 5 = 60 Pilot refernce signals in 5ms duration.
Therefore 60/840 = 1/14.

52 : DownlinkOFDMA Symbols : There are total 14*5 = 70 OFDMA Symbols present in DL in

5ms span. Where 14 symbols per subframe.

Out of which (1 Sub frame) is for UL = 14 Symbols + 2 symbols for GP (Guard Period) + 2
symbols for UuPTS = 18 Symbols for Uplink.
Therefore 70 -18 = 52 Symbols available in Downlink.

6 : Considering 3 symols for PCFICH,PDCCH & PHICH in each subframe.

Therefore in 5ms (5 subframes) duration, the total symbols for Control channels = 5*3=15
Symbols.

But here we are considering minimum 6 symbols for control channels.

6 : In 64QAM there are 6 bits with each reource element.

Downlink peak throughput Calculation --1) Actual calculation of no of bits available in DL excluding control channel & pilot/reference
signals = total 600 sub carriers = 600 * (14*5 subframes) = 42000 Resource elements in
5ms duration.

2) For reference/pilot channel = 12 * 5 =60 Resource elements (Excluding there in control

channels)
Therefore in 10 mhz bandwidth total no of total REs for Pilot = 60*50 = 3000 REs
3) For control channels = 72 * 50= 3600 REs (Considering only 6 symbols in 5ms frame)
4) Total REs in uplink sub frame = 168*50 = 8400 REs
Out of which 36*50 =1800REs for control channels in uplink subframe
12*50 = 600 REs for pilot signals in Uplink sub-frame.
Therefore REs used for Uplink data = 8400-1800-600 = 6000 REs
5) For GP = 24 * 50 =1200 REs
6) For UpPTS = 24*50 =1200 REs
7) For DwPTS = 120 * 50= 6000REs but need to find out how many REs actually going to
be used for Downlink data

Therefore total available REs for in downlink for data = 42000-3000-3600-6000-1200-1200

=27000 REs

Total no of bits = 27000 * 6(64QAM) = 162000 bits in 5ms.

Therefore throughput in a second = 2 (gain due to MCW,multicode word) * (135600/5ms) = 2 *

(162000*1000/5 Seconds ) = 2* (32400000) = 64800000 bits
Coding rate 0.925 = 64800000*0.925 = 59940000 = 59. 94 Mbpa

Uplink peak throughput Calculation ---

Total REs in uplink sub frame = 168*46 = 7728 REs (168*4 = 672 RESs for PUCCH Channel)
12*46 = 552 REs for pilot/sounding reference signals in Uplink sub-frame.
Therefore REs used for Uplink data = 7728-552= 7176 REs

1) For UpPTS = 24*50 = 1200 REs but need to find out how many REs actually going to
be used for Uplink data.
2) Therefore total available REs for in uplink for data = 7176 REs

3) Total no of bits = 7176 * 6(64QAM) =43056 bits in 5ms.

4) Therefore throughput in a second =2 (Gain from Multi coe words) * ( 43056/5ms) = 2 *

(43056*1000/5 Seconds ) = 17222400 bits
5) Coding rate 0.855 = 17222400*0.855 = 14725152 = 14.72 Mbps
