3. Justin: Thanks for tuning in to J & Js Journey, your local podcast of
random community information. Todays topic is SWPBS. One way
schools are getting their students excited is by implementing a
School Wide Positive Behavior Support plan also known as
SWPBS! One school in particular, the Hollidaysburg Area School
District, is using the slogan Be SHARP to help their students
remember how to stay positive. SHARP is an acronym for Be Safe,
Be Here, Be Accountable, Be Responsible, and Be Prepared.
4. Jess: And how schools are getting their students excited about
SWPBS is by using a new rewards system. At Hollidaysburg, they are
using tiger stripes. If someone is demonstrating SWPBS, the staff is
able to present those students with ____ tiger stripes!! What can you
use tiger stripes for you askwell Id be happy to tell you. There will
be special events that a committee will plan such as a ______ movie
day or crazy hat day. They can also be used in the student store. The
classroom isnt the only place where students can earn the strips.
5. Justin: Youre right Jess! One of the best things about the SWPBS
program is the ability to get the entire school building involved. For
instance, a survey taken in the Hollidaysburg Area School District

asked their entire teacher staff about areas for which they believe
most problems occur. Their answers: the bus, the cafeteria, and the
hallways. With SWPBS, bus drivers, cafeteria personnel, and school
hallway patrols are able to issue Tiger Stripes to students that are
demonstrating SHARP.
6. Jess: Justine, I heard your school has a SWPBS program. Can you
tell us a little about what your school environment is like now that you
have it?
Justin: Well, for starters, it seems like more and more students care
about receiving Tiger Stripes because of the different cool events we
get to go to. Nobody wants to miss out on the super-deluxe-ice cream
party in the gym! Or even Freeze Pop Fridays!

7. Justin: So to wrap up SWPBS stands for School Wide Positive
Behavior Support. It is to promote positive behavior in all areas in
school.
8. Jess: Thats right. Not only does it benefit the teachers, but it
benefits the students as well! Students are able to trade in their Tiger
Stripes to participate in different special events, and even buy things
at their student store.
