Fruits and vegetables were preserved by pickling or
drying.
Jam and jellies were made.
Food was stored in a root cellar.
Fruits and vegetables were also sold to the general
store in exchange for other goods.
Cows were raised for meat and for milking.
Wheat was the main crop and source of income within a
year of arriving in Upper Canada, they planted their first
crops and shortly after, raised their first barn.

A farmer either grew crops,rasied
animals or both .The Frist Nations
people showed the pioneers how
to plant different crops each year
in a field to help keep the soil
rich .The Aboriginal people also
showed early settlers how to plant
corn, bean and squash together
so they would help each other
grow.
