Task two
Hollis Frampton Nostalgia

one

"In this film The sound of frampton talking is overheard when he is talking
about the images , however we can hear him also talking about a different
photo to the one seen as he is talking about the future , then the new
image appears (the one he is talking about) . We see a series of still
photographs taken by Frampton burning slowly on a hotplate. On the
soundtrack, we hear his comments and reminiscences about the
photographs. As we watch each photograph burn, we hear him speaking
about the memorys pertaining to the following photograph. The sound
and image are on two different time schedules. At any moment, we are
listening to a commentary about a photograph that we shall be seeing in
the future and looking at a photograph that we have just heard about. We
are pulled between anticipation and memory. Commentary reinforces the
complexity; it creates a sense of anticipation by speaking about the
future. For maximum effect, I would install this by ptting the video on a
computer and playing it through a projector , this is because

Andy Warhol 12 hour empire state film

Empire consists of a single stationary shot of the Empire State Building

filmed from 8:06 p.m. to 2:42 a.m. The film is 8 hours long and lacks a
traditional narrative or characters, also rated 2.5 on IMDB. The passage
from daylight to darkness becomes the films narrative, while the Main
character is the iconic building that was the tallest in New York City. The
film was filmed at 24 FPS, however Andy shortened the length to 17
frames a second so you can really see the change from night time to day
time. In my opinion, this video is a bit silly as no one wants to watch a
building for 6 hours, however it is a very iconic building due to the
terrorist attacks on it, and the idea of the film according to Andy is to
show time passing by. I would install this film and show it in a cinema, this
is because we would be able to listen to all the sounds such as the wind
and cars perfectly, as well as having a clear image in big of one of the
most iconic buildings in the world.

Sam wood David

In this video by sam wood we a shown David beckham Sleeping , this
short clip literally shows a lifeless david beckham sleeping , this clip in my
opinion is very personal. We see david beckham as a iconic figure in the
sporting and fashion industry, however people seem to forget that we are
all human and have to sleep , no one has ever seen him sleep so the clip
is very personal. As its personal I wouldnt install it on a big screen ,
instead I would watch it on my phone as it is a very closed and private
video.

5000 feet is the best

The film is based on two meetings with a Predator drone operator, which was recorded in a
hotel in Las Vegas in September 2010. On camera, the drone operator agreed to debate the
technical features of his job and his daily routine. Off record, he briefly described incidents in
which the plane fired at both enemies and civilians - and the psychological problems he
experienced as a result: It follows a cast as the drone operator who grudgingly sits for an
interview in a dark hotel. The interview is repeatedly interrupted by the actor\'s digressions,
which take the viewer on meandering trips around Las Vegas. Told in quick flashbacks, the
stories form a circular plot that nevertheless returns fitfully to the voice and blurred face of
the drone operator - and to his unfinished story. in the story he says 5000 feet is the best
because you can get more description, he also mentions he knows what time of shoe you
wear ,
Sergei Eisenstein was a Russian film director and a film theorist and he was considered to
be the father of montage. He was born on January 22nd 1898 in Latvia and died in 1948 in
Moscow. Sergei was the master of altering peoples perception and found a clever was to
save a lot of money filming his montages. In one of his clips, you see a soldier take out a
grenade, pull the pin get in a launching position. Instead of filming the grenade flying he just
cut to the explosion. The audience watching the clip would imagine that he launched the
grenade and it had exploded. To do this, you would record lots of little clips of an action that
you wanted to film (But you couldnt) and you would put it together in a way which makes the
audience think thats its actually happened. This was usually done for killing scenes or any
other scene that was considered too explicit.
