EXPERIMENT: CHEMICAL CHANGES

Aim: To investigate some different types of chemical reactions.


Equipment:
Reaction 1:
Test tube
Reaction 2:
Test tube
Test tube rack
Test tube rack
Spatula
Magnesium
Vinegar solution
Hydrochloric acid
Baking soda
10mL measuring cylinder
10mL measuring cylinder
Reaction 3:
Test tube
Test tube rack
Potassium iodide solution
Lead nitrate solution
10mL measuring cylinder

Solution/Control measures

Method:
Reaction 1:
1.
Collect all necessary equipment.
2.
Add no more than spatula full of baking soda to the test
tube.
3.
Measure 3mL vinegar solution.
4.
Add the vinegar to the baking soda.
5.
Record observations.
6.
Clean all equipment.
Reaction 2:
1.
Collect all necessary equipment.
2.
Place the piece of magnesium into the clean test tube.

Measure 5mL of hydrochloric acid.


Add the acid to the magnesium.
Record observations.
Clean all equipment.

Reaction 3:
1.
Collect all necessary equipment.
2.
Measure 3mL potassium iodide solution and add to the
clean test tube.
3.
Measure 3mL lead nitrate solution and add to the test tube.
4.
Record observations.
5.
Clean all equipment. DO NOT wash the waste down the
sink. Pour it into the waste container provided.
