A SUMMER READING PROGRAM DESIGNED FOR YOU

1) Select a book you would like to read over the summer.
-Your book selection should be appropriate for discussion in school.
-Your book selection should correspond to your reading level and must be approved by your parent/guardian.
-You may not use a book previously read for this project, and/or a class assignment or a book that you have read as
part of an English class.
-Students are welcome to visit the library in June to browse the collection and seek guidance in reading
selections. You CAN sign a book out over the summer!
2) Read the book by August 31, 2015.
-While you read, take notes on the characters and memorable quotes.
-After you have finished reading your selection, complete the Thumbnail Outline Worksheet as a guide for
preparing your Book billboard.
3) Prepare a Book Billboard or a digital presentation advertising the book you read. The Book Billboard
or digital presentation is due Tuesday September 15, 2015
-The purpose for your Book Billboard is to promote the book you read as a possible reading choice for others.
-The audience for your Book Billboard or digital presentation is your peers, high school students.
-Your Book Billboard or digital presentation must include:

*Authors name for the book you read

*Two direct quotes from your book which reflect the authors style and message - explain why you chose
each quote and how it is significant in the overall work

Write a caption for each illustration explaining how the photo or drawing represents some aspect of the
book you read

Book Billboards must be prepared according to the following specifications:

* On the back, put your name, grade and homeroom in the upper right corner of your Book Bill
board.
*For digital presentations, you can use PowerPoint, Glogster, Prezi, or other software.

-Students will self assess their Book Billboards and vote on the top book Billboards in their homeroom.
