I.

Purpose
a. The purpose of this lesson is to introduce students to fractions.
II. Objectives
a. The students will be able to determine what a half, third, forth, and a whole
is. This includes 2/4 being the same as .
III. Procedure
a. Introduction
i. Have students come to the carpet and sit quietly.
ii. Start by asking students if they know what fractions are. What would
the students do if they had a cookie and they wanted to share it with a
friend? What does it mean to share it equally?
iii. Read the book Give me half?
b. Development
i. Have students come to the carpet and sit quietly.
ii. Students will complete a worksheet. Explain the worksheet to them
and model to them what is expected. The students will color the
shapes that are cut in half equally.
c. Summary
i. Brain Break: Kinder Yoga
ii. Have students come to the carpet and sit quietly.
iii. The students will wrap up today with a craft. Show the students the
one I have created. The students will be given a circle to trace on a
sheet of paper. The will cut the circle out and fold it in half. They will
now create a pizza. Half of the pizza will be cheese. They will color it
red and then cut up some yellow paper to make cheese. Once they are
done, they will place the pizza on the carpet to dry and finish any work
that they have not finished from today. We will complete the pizza
tomorrow.

a. Construction Paper (White and Yellow.)
b. Scissors
c. Tracer
d. Crayons
e. Pencil
f. Worksheet
g. Book Give Me Half.
V. Adaptations
a. There are 8 different behavior plans going on. Keep a close eye on those
students. Josh is allowed to use his chewy whenever he thinks he needs it.
VI. Evaluation
a. There will be no formal assessment for this lesson. The assessment for the
unit will be on Friday. I will use the worksheet the students complete as a
check for understanding.
