1 Pallet must be heat treated or chemical treated. Treatment must follow
guidelines as stated by the International Standards for Phyto sanitary Measures (ISPM No. 15.). 2 Moisture content of pallet must only range at 18-20%. 3 Pallets must be clean and free of pest. 4 The pallet shall be in good condition and must not have the following: Wane of edge or cross boards Traces of bark Warped boards Cracked blocks Mold or rot Borer holes (due to wood borers or other causes) With protruding nails or other sharp objects Wooden Pallet Inspection, Segregation and Storage 1 Inspect each wooden pallet at the pallet cleaning area. Record activity using a checklist. 2 Check for damage, including protruding nails, wetness, presence of pest or infestation and heavy soil. 3 Segregate pallets found to be heavily soiled, wet or damaged. For pallet with pest sightings or infestation, inform warehouse supervisor and pest control personnel for proper containment. 4 Check extent of pest sightings or infestation including nearby warehouse areas. Do necessary precautionary measures to prevent infestation of other pallets, materials and areas. 5 Provide disposition of segregated pallets from Step 3. 6 Clean and sanitize area. Wooden Pallet Cleaning Procedure 1 Using a mallet, hit the top, sides and underneath of the pallet to loosen adhering dirt. Clean upon delivery. 2 With the use of dedicated vacuum cleaner or nylon-bristled broom, collect the loosened dirt. 3 Store the cleaned pallets at the pallet staging area, protected from pest and external environment. 4 Record activity using a checklist.
