Step 1. Complete the Post-Installation Tasks


Before you upgrade Metadata Manager, install PowerCenter. For more information, see the PowerCenter
Installation and Configuration Quick Start.
1.1 Verify prerequisites. Review the prerequisites and verify that the environment meets the minimum
requirements. Verify the database and web browser requirements.
1.2 Create repository databases and user accounts. Set up databases and user accounts for the Metadata
Manager repository. Create a separate database user account for each repository. The database users must have
permissions to create and drop tables and indexes and to select, insert, update, and delete data from tables.
Use Table 1 to record database information:

1.3 Prepare Metadata Manager for upgrade. Back up the Metadata Manager repository database. Export
reports and related objects.

Step 2. Upgrade Metadata Manager


2.1 Create a license object. If the PowerCenter domain does not have a PowerCenter 8.6 license object, create a
license object using the license key.
2.2 Create the Metadata Manager Service. Create a Metadata Manager Service and specify the Metadata
Manager repository.
2.3 Upgrade the repository. Upgrade the contents of the Metadata Manager repository.
2.4 Create an LDAP security domain (Optional). If you upgrade Metadata Manager users to an LDAP security
domain, create an LDAP security domain before you start upgrading the users and groups.
2.5 Upgrade groups and user accounts. Upgrade the groups and user accounts to the security domain you want
to use for Metadata Manager.
2.6 Enable the Metadata Manager Service. After you enable the Metadata Manager Service, you can perform
the post-upgrade tasks.

Step 3. Complete the Post-Upgrade Tasks


3.1 Download and install the Metadata Manager Agent. In the Metadata Manager application, download and
install the Metadata Manager Agent.
3.2 Update the Metadata Manager resources. In the Metadata Manager application, update the properties of
resources that use PowerCenter, Data Analyzer, and relational data source in the Resource List section of the
Load page.
3.3 Update the Metadata Manager index files. In the Metadata Manager application, select and index all
Metadata Manager resources.
3.4 Regenerate the templates and PowerCenter workflows for custom resources. If Metadata Manager uses
custom resources, use the Custom Metadata Configurator to regenerate the template and PowerCenter
workflows.
3.5 Import the custom PowerCenter workflows. Use the PowerCenter Repository Manager or the Workflow
Manager to import the workflows in the PowerCenter repository associated with the Metadata Manager Service.
3.6 Import saved schemas, dashboards, and report objects into a Data Analyzer repository. To use the
schemas, dashboards, and reports from the previous version of Metadata Manager, import the XML files into a
Data Analyzer repository.
