compared scientifically.
a. Demonstrate the process for the development of a dichotomous key.
b. Classify organisms based on physical characteristics using a dichotomous key of
the six kingdom system (archaebacteria, eubacteria, protists, fungi, plants, and
animals).

Description of how to implement in the class: Individually, students will create a
visual map with characteristics of the six kingdoms. Two examples of each kingdom
must also be provided with images. The students will use their textbooks to find the
characteristics and use Nettrekker for images (this sight will be safe for middle
schoolers). After the visual maps are created, the teacher will place them into a basic
productivity tool presentation program (PowerPoint). The class will them watch the
presentation and will go over characteristics found in each kingdom and look at the
examples. Lastly, there will be a wrap up discussion to look at Protista and how it has
characteristics from each kingdom and why the students believe this is.
Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi): This would be LoTI level 3.
Students are assigned a topic and using technology to create something and also
using technology to find images.

Inspiration. This BBPT allows for students to create visual maps, outlines and
presentations to strengthen their knowledge base and increase understanding.
