Description of how to implement in the class: At the beginning of the lesson,
the teacher will show a map of South America on the interactive whiteboard, labeling
each country. The teacher will explain that the class will be going to the computer
lab to learn about countries and create a brochure about the students chosen
country. The teacher will then send around a sign up list for students to choose a
country in South America (multiple students will have the same country). Before
going to the computer lab, the teacher will introduce the The World Factbook by
navigating the website, and showing them how to select a country and see various
facts about the country.
In the computer lab, the teacher will have a saved template for the brochure that
students will create on each computer. Each student will use The World Factbook to
complete the template by downloading pictures and inputting facts into the brochure.
After creating and printing the brochures, students will have the chance to present
their brochures to the class. The teacher will then create a display in the classroom
so that students can look at other students work.
Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi): This project reaches LoTi level 4.
Students are using technology through online research and applying what they learn
to a Basic Productivity Tool. They also have some choice, though the project is
scaffolded to help students find legitimate resources.
