Content Standard Addressed: S4E1. Students will compare and contrast the physical attributes of stars, star
patterns, and planets.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL): This lesson is color coded and organized to meet the needs of every
student. Students will be able to conceptualize and organize all thoughts as they move through each planet
on their concept map notes.
Lesson idea implementation: In this lesson, students will learn facts about each of the eight planets in the
Solar System. Using resources provided by the teacher (such as the textbook or web resources), students will
organize their notes and thoughts using the bubbl.us mind map that each student will have access to on a
laptop or desktop computer.
Student mind maps can easily be shared with the teacher, which will be how the teacher will assess
student acquisition of learning. In addition to a concept map and assessment, students can also use their
bubbl.us to review for any future upcoming unit assessments.
Reflective Practice: The bubbl.us was integrated in this lesson as a note-taking and organization tool. It can
also be used as a brainstorming or collaboration tool, and I think that would fit very well in English and
language arts lessons.
