1.2 Submittals
A. Drawings:SubmittwopapercopiesandonesetofPDForAutoCADfiles
forArchitectsreviewpriortofabrication.Drawingsmustdescribethespace
frameinfullinrelationtoalladjacentworkandshowallinterfacedetails
withmaterialseithersupportedbythespaceframeorsupportingthespace
frame.DrawingsmustbesignedandsealedbyaRegisteredProfessional
Engineer.
B. DesignReport:SubmittwopapercopiesandonesetofPDForMSWord
filesofadesignreportdescribingthestructuralengineeringcalculationsused
todesignthespaceframe.Designreportmustincludeallactionson
supportingstructureforreviewbyprojectsengineer.DesignReportmustbe
signedandsealedbyaRegisteredProfessionalEngineer.
C. Samples:Submitsampleofatypicaltubeendandhubwithspecifiedfinish.

1.3 QualityAssurance
A. Qualifications:
(1)

Manufacturer:Thespaceframemustbemanufacturedbyafirm
havingaminimumoftenyearsofexperienceinthedesign,
engineering,fabricationandconstructionofmetalspaceframesthatare
ofsimilarsizeandcomplexitytotheoneforthisproject.

(2)

Installer:Theinstallerofthespaceframemustbetrainedbythe
manufacturer.Allinstallationworkmustproceedinaccordanceto
manufacturerswritteninstructionsandfollowingrecommendationsof
manufacturersqualifiedsiteconsultant.

B. DesignRequirements:

1.4 Delivery,StorageandHandling
A. Wrapping:Allpaintedstructurecomponentsshallbeindividuallywrappedat
sourceinamannerthatprotectsthepaintfinishduringtransportation,storage
andhandling.
B. Packaging:Allcomponentsshallbepackagedinmetalcrates,eachweighing
nomorethan3tonsfullyloaded.Eachindividualcrateshallcontainonly
componentsimmediatelyadjacenttoeachotherinthefinishedstructure.
Cratesshallbenumberedtomatchinstallationsequenceandinstructions.
Packinglistsshallbeaffixedtoallcrates.
C. Storageatsite:Materialsshallbestoredofftheground,protectedfrom
weather,protectedfromallsourcesofwater,andsecurefromleaningor
toppling.

1.5 Warranty
A. Themanufacturershallissuetheownerawrittenguarantee,validforaperiod
ofoneyearafterinspectionandacceptanceofthework,thatthestructureis
freeofdefectsinmaterialsormanufacture,andfurther,thatanysuchdefects
thatmayariseduringthisperiodwillberepairedorreplacedatnocosttothe
owner.

Products

2.1 Manufacturers
A. Manufacturer:StructurewillbemanufacturedbyGeometrica,Inc.,Houston,
TX,(713)7227555,http://geometrica.com.
2.2 Materials
A. TubecomponentsshallbeERWsteeltubingmeetingorexceedingthe
mechanicalpropertiesofASTMA500GRBorequivalent.Tubesshallbe
sizedbydesignloadsfromstructuralanalysis.
B. PurlinmembersshallbeERWformedsteeltubingconformingtoASTM
A569orequivalent.Purlinsshallbeeitherfastenedtoorintegraltotop
chordmembers.Nosecondarycladdingsupportstructureshallbepermitted.
C. HubsshallbealuminumalloyAA6061T6solidextrusionswithserrated
connectionslotsfortherequiredtubewallthickness.Hubsultimateload
undertensionshallbeatleast120%ofthenominalyieldstrengthofthetubes
beingjoinedasdemonstratedbytestsandanalysis.
D. ThreadedhardwareshallmeettherequirementsofeitherASTMA307orA
449asrequiredbystructuralanalysisanddesign.
E. Othersteelcomponents:SeatFittings,washersandmiscellaneoussteel
membersshallbefabricatedfromhotrolledsteelperASTMA36.
2.3 FinishRequirements
A. Galvanizing:
(1)

Tubeandpurlincomponentsshallbemillgalvanizedonbothinterior
andexteriorsurfacestoASTMA653,G90.

Bolts,washersandothersteelhardware,miscellaneoussteelfittings
andedgeframingmaterialshallbehotdipgalvanized.

B. PowdercoatPaint:Tubes,purlins,seatfittingsandwashersshallbefinished
withabakedonpolyesterpowdercoatsystemovertheexternalgalvanizing.
Colorasselectedbyarchitectfrommanufacturersstandardcolors.

Part 3

Execution

3.1 Examination
A. Theinstallershallexaminethespaceframesupports,workareasand
conditionsunderwhichthespaceframeistobeinstalledpriortoassembly
anderection.Ifthesupportsareaorconditionsareunsatisfactory,erection
shallnotproceeduntilsatisfactorycorrectionshavebeenmade.
3.2 Installation
A. Manufacturershallprovideaqualifiedconsultantatsiteduringinstallation.
Thesiteconsultantwillbeavailableatalltimestoanswerquestionsaboutthe
installationprocedures.
B. Erectionofthemetalspaceframeandrelatedaccessoriesshallbeincomplete
accordancewiththemanufacturer'sinstallationinstructionsandfollowing
recommendationsofmanufacturersqualifiedsiteconsultant.
C. Adequatecareshallbetakenduringtheerectionsequencestoinsure
membersarenotpositionedbyundueforceorerectedinanymannerthat
causesecondarystresses.
D. Adequatetemporarybracingandsupportsshallbeprovidedtoinsurethe
spaceframestabilityduringerection.
E. Protectivewrapshallremainonthetubesthroughtheerectionprocess.

3.3 CleanUp
A. Uponcompletionofthissectionofwork,removeallprotectivewraps,leave
allworkandworkareascleanandinsatisfactorycondition.
B. Immediatelyafterassembly,applyairdrytouchuppainttomemberswhose
finishwasdamagedduringmaterialhandlingorassembly.
C. Uponcompletionandinspection(3.4)ofspaceframework,itshallbethe
responsibilityofthegeneralcontractortoprotectthespaceframefrom
damageduringtheremainderofconstructionontheprojectanduntilowner
acceptance.
3.4 Inspection
A. ThecompletedSpaceframestructureshallundergoafullandcompletefinal
inspectionbymanufacturer'ssiteconsultantandshallbecertifiedinwriting
bythemanufacturerthatthefinishedproducthasbeenerectedinaccordance
withitsapproveddrawingsandthesecontractdocuments.
