Mobile Learning Project

1. Local History Scavenger Hunt

Cell phones with text messaging and camera, computer with internet access are
technology devices needed to complete this lesson.

This lesson is age appropriate for 12-18 year olds (grades 6-12).

The devices would be used to collect pictures and notes/information about each
finding on the scavenger hunt.

The benefits it has for the students is that they will be able to visualize their research
and learn by experiencing the research versus reading about it.

The benefits it will have for the teacher is the research and pictures that the students
collect can be used on future lesson plans.

2. Peer Review and Collaboration Using Chat Tools and/or Voice


Recorders
Cell phones (basic or smart) with Bluetooth or Wi-Fi chat apps; Nintendo DS, tablet
devices, netbooks, MP3 players, digital cameras with voice-record functionality, and/or
computer with internet access would be the devices needed to complete this lesson.
This lesson is age appropriate for 12-18 year olds (grades 6-12).
The technology devices would be used to create a text, send it to a partner, edit
partner's work, send partner's work back, voice-record their own text to check it
audibly.
The benefits it has for the students are that the students will be able to turn letters (text
message) into spoken words (voice recorder) and will know how to transcribe voicerecorded sentences. By grading their peers work, it will teach them how to recognize
grammar and punctuation errors as well as how to check for understanding.
The benefit it will have for the teacher is being able to see if the students understand
what they are learning by having them to send the finished product to her. This will
create a different learning environment for the teacher as well as the students.
