About the University

The G. B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology is the first state agricultural university in the country established in the
year 1960, on land grant pattern, with assistance from university of Illinois. Right from its inception, it has strived hard to
introduce innovative and modern technologies in agricultural research which has played a key role in ushering green revolution
in the country. Therefore, the Nobel Laureate Dr. Norman E.
E Borlaug recognized it as the harbinger of Green revolution in
India. The university continues to play a pivotal role in integration of teaching and research with extension activities. The
university has been twice adjudged as the best state agricultural university; in the years 1997 and 2006 by the Indian Council of
Agricultural Research (ICAR).

Pantnagar Biotechnology Programme

Pantnagar Biotechnology Programme was established in 1986 with an aim to serve as the nodal centre for coordinating the
activities of biotechnology education and research at Pantnagar.
Pantnagar To meet the continuous demand for trained human resources
both for the development of technologies (R&D) and in the production industry the Masters program in Agricultural
Biotechnology was initiated in 1988 with the kind support of Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. Since then it
is continuously trying to evolve progressively with the diversification of major biotechnologies. In 1995 the department initiated
Ph.D. program which has been offered as a inter-disciplinary
disciplinary program with curricular and faculty inputs from different
departments. Pantnagar Biotechnology programme has been recognized as one of the Top-Ten Biotech schools in the country
and its Masters programme in Agricultural Biotechnology has been adjusted twice as A rank (11th and 12th prospective plan)
by Department of Biotechnology (Govt. of India) New Delhi.
Delhi Through Programme Mode Support programme of DBT, the
research activities of Pantnagar Biotechnology programme is focused on important key aspects of food and nutritional security
such as signal transduction cascades for achieving disease resistance, Aroma biology and seed biology as well as to understand
the molecular basis of high nitrogen use efficiency, high grain calcium, iron and zinc accumulation and stress tolerance. Beside,
the programme also focus on plant disease surveillance programme employing newer tools of modern molecular diagnostics
especially for economically important plant pathogens.

Bioinformatics Sub DIC

Bioinformatics Sub DIC was established in November 1998 in the Dept. of Molecular Biology & Genetic Engineering (MBGE),
College of Basic Sciences & Humanities and since then it is an inherent part of the Pantnagar Biotechnology Programme. Along
with teaching the center provides strong bioinformatics support to the ongoing research activities in the area of life sciences in
general and molecular biology & biotechnology in particular.
particular The centre also provides support to the students of other
universities to pursue their research in various areas of bioinformatics and complete their dissertations. The centre has state of art
softwares and facilities which are utilized in understanding complex biological mechanisms such as protein-protein interaction,
and development of tools and useful databases etc.
