Introduction
Electronic governance or e governance is the

application of information and communication


technology for delivering govt. services to the
citizens.
First effort by GoI was NIC national informatics
centre in 1976. Surat initially moved forward
in this direction november 1979
Another effort was NeGP in 2003.

SMC decided to go for total computerization

on rental basis from external agency in 1990


Issuance of system generated birth and death
certificate in 2000
Adoption of e-tendering process in 2007
Initiation m-gov for vaccination alert system
in 2009
