CLIMATE OF COLORADO
Primarily a mountain state, although nearly 40%
of it is covered by the eastern planes. Average
altitude of Colorado is 6,800 feet above sea level
and is the highest state in the union. Colorado
has 54 mountains that are 14,000 feet or higher
and about 830 mountains between 11,000 and
14,000 in elevation. Most of Colrado has a cool
climate (mountain climate). In the summers
there are hot days in the plains, but then cooled
off by afternoon thunderstorms. Humidity is low
and this causes rapid evaporation. The higher
the elevation, generally the cooler the weather.
Prevailing air currents reach Colorado from the
west. Most storms come from the west and
eastern slope areas recieve small amounts of
precipitation.
