Newsletter of the United Church of Primghar

July, 2015- Volume 7

A few weeks ago my son announced, Im a Pwesbyterwian (his lisp

only adding to the cuteness of this statement.) Though I was thrilled that
my son had chosen to identify with my husband, I felt a bit disappointed
that he had somehow turned against me. He made this announcement to
my professor of Greek New Testament, who was a Presbyterian himself
and knew that I was a Methodist. Feeling suddenly outnumbered, I turned to my daughter and asked her if
she was a Methodist or a Presbyterian. Kezy, with a look of sheer terror on her face responded, I dont
know! I just want to love Jesus! Out of the mouth of babes thou hast perfected praise.
I just finished my MDiv at University of Dubuque, and the Iowa Annual Conference has appointed
me to the churches in Archer and Primghar. I am excited and scared of this new opportunity. I am excited
because I am able to put my skills to work. I can organize a worship service, I can preach, I can sing, I can
do visitation, I can work for social justice. I am scared because I am new to the area, I dont know the stories, I dont know the people, I dont know what people need, and no one knows me or my family.
I am caring, quirky, shy, and outgoing. I am more focused on relationships than tasks, but I also
know the importance of learning. While I was once in the Army, I hope to one day write a fictional book
series that examines Biblical legends. I am currently driven to work with those who are marginalized and
help build community for everyone.
My husband Duane is the best husband and father for whom I thought I could only dream. He may
joke that he is going to sit at home in his bathrobe eating bonbons, but he has an ability to manage things at
home much better than I could ever think possible. He also has incredible experience in urban youth ministry and is currently finishing up his ordination requirements for the Presbyterian church while helping to
raise our two children.
My daughter Kezy is 6 and going into first grade. She loves princesses and unicorns and her favorite color is light blue, and pink, and purple, and black, and all the colors. Her favorite Avenger is Thor.
My son Tommy is 5 and is going into kindergarten. He loves Power Rangers and dinosaurs, but his true
passion is Legos. His favorite color is blue, and Captain America and Ironman are tied for his favorite
Avenger.
As one door closes, another one opens and we prepare for our next adventure. We never know how
our lives are going to intersect and how the narrative is going to develop, but having the faith and trust that
God is on our side, we enter into the next chapter with the lessons of the past and optimism for the future.
Blessings ~ Pastor Kris

If you are aware of someone in need of a pastoral call, please inform Pastor Kris at the office, 957-4960. She
would rather hear from multiple sources than from no one at all. In these times of privacy rights, hospitals and
nursing homes may not divulge information relating to a resident or patient, so it is very important that members
and/or their families let the Pastor know of all needs for pastoral care.
