Rachael HainsWesson (PhD) specialises in educating educators in higher education sector around Work
Integrated Learning, blended learning, STEM education, reflective practice and creative arts (practice and
research).Herteachingphilosophyfocusesontheuseofcreativitytoundergocuttingedgeresearch,improve
teachingpractice,developinnovatecurriculumdesign,andproduceresourceartefactsthatmakeadifference
forstudentsandteachers.Presently,Rachaelisfocusingonblendedlearningstrategiestoimproveinstruction
intheareaofScience,Technology,EngineeringandMathematics(STEM)atDeakinUniversity(Melbourne)in
theFacultyofScience,EngineeringandBuiltEnvironment.However,Rachaelwillsoonmoveintoanewroleat
SwinburneUniversityofTechnology(Melbourne)asaSeniorLecturerinWorkIntegratedLearningaspartof
theUniversitysStudentAdvancementTeam.

JohnKennyisaseniorlecturerinScienceEducationintheFacultyofEducationattheUniversityofTasmania.
He was a practising teacher and curriculum developer with the Victoria Education Department for 20 year
beforeobtaininghisPhDin2005atRMITUniversity.
JohnhaspublishednationallyandinternationallyintheScienceEducationfieldandisveryinterestedinhow
universities and schools can work together to provide authentic learning experiences that link theory and
practice.Heseestheroleoftheuniversityascomplementarytothelearninginschools,notseparatefromit.
JohnalsohaspublicationsconcernedwithbroaderissueinHigherEducationpolicyandstrategyanditisthis
broader perspective that has led him to consider how the STEPS program may have implications beyond
teachereducation.
