Welcome to the FOA!

You are now certified by the FOA, the professional society of fiber optics. Your certification
indicates professional achievement in the premier field of communications.
Keep your identification card with you. It indicates your certifications, your certification number
and when your certification active listing expires.
Your certification itself never expires, but you must renew your membership and certification
listing with the FOA annually so we know you are still active in the field and can confirm your
status with anyone who inquires. Your renewal will help fund FOA activities in important areas
like education, standards and promotion of fiber optics. It also allows us to continually update
our website and publish our monthly online newsletter. If your certification lapses for a period
of more than three years, you will be required to retest to return to active status.
Add your name to the FOA email newsletter list. Also, keep up with the FOA activities and new
developments in fiber optic technology on the FOA website, www.thefoa.org. The website also
includes many technical reference materials on basic fiber optics and new technologies
including an extensive reference library on fiber optics.
Having completed your CFOT, we suggest you look now at the requirements for the FOA
advanced and specialist certifications. These certifications are the pinnacle of achievement in
fiber optics. If you are interested in advanced certifications, go to the FOA website and
download a FOA logbook to keep track of your experience and use the FOA Online Reference
Guide to expand your knowledge.
