My STEP Reflection Speech

First of all, it is a delight to see all of us gathered here today to appreciate a journey of learning.
Let us start by trying out something together. There was once a man named Theseus who had a ship.
Obviously, during the use of his ship, it required some repairs therefore, each time Theseus needed to
switch out parts of the ship, he used to take the old part & place it in his warehouse and replace it with a
new one. And then the day came where you could say that each part of the ship had been switched with a
different one. So now if Theseus took all the parts which were replaced and rebuilt a ship using those,
which one of the two ships is the original one? Similar to this are the cells in our bodies. They are
constantly being replaced which means that all of the particles in your body are replaced around every
five years, so which you is the original you? At the level of particles that are too small to even be
observed by a microscope, are you even the same you that you were a few years ago? But how is this
related to STEP?
STEP is a journey tailored to dive deeply into thought and to get students to think about history,
religion and cultural values. Sitting in STEP class was something that I looked forward to each week.
Learning about our history and journey through time as one community, I came to appreciate the diversity
and richness of our history. Travelling through Makkah, Syria, Baghdad, Spain, and Cairo, my journey as
a STEP student has been very profound and wholesome.
Not only has STEP taught me cultural and historical features of my faith, it has also taught me
how to work together as a team to delegate tasks, how to manage my time, and how to express myself
artistically, in the form of filming, drawing, poster designing, brochure making, etc. These skills have
given me priceless experiences and are useful not only in the classrooms but also in daily life.
Finally, Id like to thank my teachers, the Bait-Ul-Ilm management & the STEP management for
this unforgettable experience and hope that this program continues to benefit the youth for the years to
come.
