Introduction
"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world"
- Nelson Mandela
The role of education on individual development is of major importance. Education has a tremendous ripple effect on development in and
around our communities. The African slogan of You teach a child, you educate a village is one which has a strong resonance within the
development of students in advancing their communities. By focusing on education we seek to empower an individual with tools that are
extremely crucial to their success in the job market and also an act of active citizenship.
On a yearly basis NSFAS, which is the biggest student funding organisation, awards approximately R9,5 billion in loans and bursaries to more
than 400 000 students at public FET colleges and universities. However, even with such a large of amount invested by NSFAS, a large
percentage of students are still left unfunded and as a result, abandon their education ambitions.
Background
Creative Age is a youth founded social movement that advocates for creative solutions in tackling socio-economic issues affecting mainly the
youth in our country and continent. With regards to the education funding crisis, Creative Age will be hosting the Jozi Campus Shutdown
Benefit Concert on 29 August 2015. We have targeted higher institutions of learning to market this event to students, as the purpose of the
event is to raise funds that will contribute to funding educational expenses for needy students.
The Jozi Campus Shutdown Benefit Concert is a educational fun day which seeks to provide a platform for engagement with the youth
regarding many of the issues crippling the advancement of our country and the role that they play in solving/avoiding these issues. The fun day
will feature a variety of campaigns targeted at responsible active citizenship in making our country a better place. Through music and live
entertainment, different organisations such as; IOHA, Love life, SANCA, SAB Reality Check Campaign, and a variety of other organisations
seeking a youth audience will be able to set up exhibits and get an opportunity to address students and youth present on the day.
The concert will attract event goers by offering an A-list line up of artists, entertainers and media personalities to keep the crowd entertained
for the day.
We will also feature a number of up and coming performers within our universities, who will have a platform to showcase their skills and
talents on the day through a talent search competition running in universities leading up to the event. We have proposed to team up with
performing arts students in different universities to help us in achieving this objective
Event Objectives
To grow the Jozi Campus Shutdown brand
To present an opportunity for corporates, governments and NGOs to advance their campaigns targeted at youth especially youth in
universities
To provide a marketing platform for prospective companies to sell and market their products
To provide mutually beneficial entertainment for attendees and sponsors
To attract partners and stakeholders who identify with the objectives of Creative Age
To try out a new angle in reaching students through a concert that will feature young experiential artists who will share the stage with more
established branded artists to develop and attract a large number of attendees, in a creative and socially interactive environment. We
believe that a well executed concert will be achieved through teaser promotions and brand association through our campus activation
campaigns.
The marketing and projects team has been commissioned to undertake the role of campus activations that will travel different universities
and campuses within the Gauteng region with a headline artist to promote the event.
Creative Age seeks 2-3 year sponsorship deals that will offer sponsors a chance to be part of this exciting, dynamic and far-reaching event
which seeks to expand country wide in the near future by staging similar events in other key provinces.
