Student demonstrates no understanding of skill. S/he is

themselves using the necessary skill.

able to either identify, complete, or manipulate the
necessary skill, but cannot effectively or consistently use the
necessary skill when expressing themselves.

able to effectively and consistently use the necessary skill
when expressing themselves.

Student demonstrates mastery of the necessary skill. S/he is

when expressing themselves, and does so artfully. That is, in
such a manner as to be considered beautiful, or potentially
so.
*Within the Grade Book, scores of 2 & 3 carry the same value.

The above chart should be used to convert standards based-scores to


traditional percentage based-scores. Remember, the grade book has
been adjusted so students may not score lower than a 50% for the
marking period. When calculating grades, your numbers will not be
accurate unless you account for the correct assignment-weight.

Standards Based-Grade Book

Above is a screen-shot of a standards based-grade book. While it is


not identical to my own, it does reflect the same format only
standards and skills are listed. Further, student achievement is
measured as being either masterful, or not.

The second screen-shot illustrates how assignments are tracked.


Those assignments that directly measure either a standard or skill are
listed as graded, while all other assignments are not (NGA). Again,
while this grade book is similar it is not perfect, I expect my grade book
will contain more not graded-assignments.
