RENSSELAER COUNTY SUPREME COURT RULES EVERETTS

PETITION SIGNATURES VALID
Following judicial scrutiny of signatures, Ernest Everett will stay on the Troy mayoral ballot
Troy, N.Y. (July 30, 2015) Last month, Ernest Everett filed 855 petition signatures with the Rensselaer
Board of Elections, more than twice the required number of entries to qualify for Troys mayoral ballot.
Following objections to all three of the mayoral candidates petition signatures, Everett was sued by his
fellow Democratic candidate.
Following review by the Rensselaer Board of Elections, which approved Everetts signatures as legitimate,
the case was brought before the Rensselaer County Supreme Court. Representation for all three
candidates appeared before the Court this morning. The Court ruled that all signatures in question were in
fact valid, produced by registered Democrats and residents of Troy.
"I am pleased with the decision and how my attorneys presented our arguments. My team and I will
continue to focus on discussing the issues that face our city and how my vision will move the city forward.
The status quo needs to go and this was one more step in ensuring that happens," said Everett.
Everett expressed his belief that his opponent is using the case as a tactic to detract the focus of the race
away from Troys issues.
This attempt from my opposition is petty, but it also shows that my opponent is not concerned about
addressing the real issues of Troy, said Everett.
