Lesson Plan: Ceramic Face Jugs

Grade level: 9-12


Time frame: Four 90- minute class periods
Materials:
White or red earthenware clay
Wheel (optional)
Clay tools
Small water containers
Kiln
Glazes (underglaze for eyes and teeth)
Wax resist
Paint brushes
Plastic bags

Objectives:
Students will create their own clay face jug after learning about clay building
techniques and the history of face jugs.
