HYDRAULIC MOTORS

DEFINITION & WORKING

Hydraulic motor: Hydraulic Motor provides
rotational movement. Hydraulic motor
transforms hydraulic energy into rotary
mechanical energy which is applied to a resisting
object by means of a shaft connected with the
motor.
Working: Hydraulic motor the rotating elements(i.e
vanes , gears, pistons, etc) are pushed by the oil
pressure to enable the motor shaft to rotate and thus
develop the necessary turning torque and continuous
rotating motion.

CLASSSIFICATION
1. FIXED DISPLACEMENT UNI DIRECTIONAL
2. VARIABLE DISPLACEMENT BI DIRECTIONAL

CONSTRUCTION MAY CONCERN

1. GEAR TYPE
2.VANE TYPE
3.PISTON TYPE- a) Axial piston motors
b) Radial piston motors

TYPES OF HYDRAULIC MOTORS

Hydraulic motors delivering rotary power are

mainly of two types and are classified on
torque and rotational speed.
1) HSLT (High Speed Low Torque)
2) LSHT (Low Speed High Torque motor.)
HSLT MOTOR SPEED- 1000-5000 RPM
LSHT MOTOR SPEED0.1-1000 RPM

SELECTION OF HYDRAULIC
MOTORS
When selecting motors, engineers must
consider two inputs.
1) FLOW RATE LPM OR GPM
2) PRESSURE BAR OR PSI
OUT PUTS
1) ROTATIONAL SPEED (RPM)
2) TORQUE (LB-IN. OR NM).

Before selecting a motor, engineers need to

know the rpm and torque the job requires.
HP = (rpm torque)/63,025
