open-ended and allows for students to represent their learning in a variety of ways including print, visual and multimodal genres. For lower-level ELLs I may encourage them to research in their L1 or I might direct them to resources that will be easier to read, such as anything for kids. I also might limit the choice of genres and reduce the number for ELLs or others that need such adaptations. Mini-lessons on the characteristics of specific genres, or on how to use certain technologies, could be provided as needed.
