VETIVER EXTRACT FORMULATION ( Vetiveria zizanioides )


IN STOCKS OF ANTI MOSQUITO
LOTION

Mosquitoes are one of the insect what their presences are often disturbing . To prevent
diseases caused by mosquitoes, one of which is usually done by people is fogging
(fumigation) . In addition for mosquito repelling either in the form of sprays or mosquito
coils, lotion is also practically used by applied to the skin surface of the body. The use of
plants as medicine has been widely recognized eiter in developing countries or developed
countries . This was strengthened by back to nature thinking . Plant medicine is a national
asset that needs to be researched and developed its utilization in order to provide scientific
support about the chemicals they contain.
This research use experimental research that examines the anti-mosquito lotion
formulation of extract of vetiver ( Vetiveria zizanioides ). Results of the research showed that
the extract of vetiver has a volatile oil content, harsha and bitter substances as a mosquito
repeller.
It can be seen from the decreasing number of mosquitoes that land on the reduction of
black cloth on the testing of anti-mosquito. Further testing include organoleptic test , pH
test , homogeneity test, irritation test and dispersive power test .
The conclusion from this research is 5 %, 7%, and 9% concentration in antimosquito lotion from vetiver extract as effectiveagainst mosquitoes . And physical quality
that can be test from the organoleptic, homogeneity, PH, irritation and dispersive power has
been qualified as anti-mosquito lotion according to existing literature.
