Unit, said: “We are cur-
rently investigating a com-
plex sequence of events
that has ultimately led to a
young man losing his life
and left another man in a
serious condition in hospi-
tal so I would urge anyone
that has any information to
contact police urgently.
“Firstly, I would appeal
to anyone that witnessed
the minor collision be-
tween the black and blue
Ford Focus outside the
Old Oak public house to
get in touch.
“I am confident that be-
tween 7pm and 7.20pm on
a bank holiday weekend
there would have been
plenty of people that could
be important witnesses.
Avoid
“I would also appeal for
people to come forward
who saw the blue Ford
Focus overturn outside
Franco’s or saw the fatal
collision itself.
“Again it would still have
been light and it happened
on a busy main road so I
am keen to speak to any-
one that witnessed any-
thing at all to come for-
ward.
“Finally, I would also
like to hear from anybody
that witnessed any vehicle
driving irresponsibly in the
area at the time or any mo-
torist that had to avoid an
oncoming vehicle as they
could have vital informa-
tion.”
Grimsargh parish Coun
Geoff Swarbrick said the
stretch is notorious for
speeding drivers.
He said: “The time for
something to be done was
years ago.”
A 48-year-old man from
Longridge has been bailed
until October 21.

MORE than a dozen
car windows were
smashed as part of an
early-morning wrecking
spree in Preston.
Residents across four
streets in Frenchwood woke
up in horror to find shattered
glass scattered across the
pavement at around 3am on
Saturday.
Police say they are investigat-
ing after 13 reports of smashed
car windows in Selborne Street,
Carr Street, James Street and
Larkhill Street.
The financial cost of the dam-
age is not yet known but it is es-
timated that it could run into
thousands of pounds.
Victim Mohammed Ali, 29,
said that he spent the early
hours of the morning sweeping
At least 13 car windows
smashed in four streets
up glass after his family’s two
cars were attacked.
He was alerted to the damage
by a Carr Street resident who
knocked on his door.
He said: “It’s extremely up-
setting and I’m very annoyed –
it’s an expense that I don’t need
to be paying for.
Violated
“I feel violated that my own
property has been damaged.
“A lot of residents have been
complaining to the police say-
ing that there’s lots of people
smoking dope in the park and
nothing’s got done.
“There’s also been an in-
crease in the number of young
people in balaclavas and riding
around on bikes, and it’s threat-
ening to a lot of the residents
here .”
Mr Ali said that many people
locally believe that the attack
was carried out by a youngster
from a nearby children’s home
but this has not been confirmed
by the police.
He also said that youngsters
have also been intimidating res-
idents by banging on the win-
dows of homes.
A spokeswoman for Lan-
cashire Police said: “We have
received numerous reports of
vehicle damage in and around
Selborne Street.
“Most had windows smashed
in.
“We sent reassurance patrols

to the area and we are investi-
gating.”
She said that the police are
not sure if the incident involved
an individual or several offend-
ers.
Arrested
Now, the force is appealing
for witnesses to the vandalism
to come forward – no-one has
been arrested so far in connec-
tion with the incident.
Vandals damaged at least 45
cars in Deepdale in a crime
spree in March,
Residents in streets around
East View awoke to find more
than 100 car tyres had been
slashed overnight.
The damage ran into thou-
sands of pounds.

A MAN who pleaded guilty
to harassing a woman has
been given a community
order and told he will be
electronically tagged.
Thomas Henry Roeth-
ling-Cook, 18, of Wood-
lands Way, Barton, Preston,
appeared before magis-
trates in Preston.
He must now observe a
three month curfew from
9pm and 7am. He was also
ordered to pay £60 costs.
Order breach
punished
A MAN who admitted
breaching his community
order has had it extended.
Zafran Farooq, 22, of St
Paul’s Road, Preston, must
complete an additional 40
hours unpaid work. He
must also pay £50 costs,
magistrates in Preston said.
Homeless
man released
A BEGGAR arrested for
begging in public has been
conditionally discharged.
John Mathew Ashcroft,
28, of no fixed abode, was
arrested while begging at
the walkway close to the
Corn Exchange building in
Preston.
He pleaded guilty before
magistrates in Preston and
was conditionally dis-
charged for 12 months.
Admitted
holding dope
A PRESTON man who ad-
mitted possession of
cannabis has been condi-
tionally discharged.
Andrew Mark Nuttall, 40,
of Sedgwick Street, Preston,
appeared before magis-
trates in the city.
He was conditionally dis-
charged for 12 months after
pleading guilty to posses-
sion of the class B drug.
Driver fined
over speed
A SPEEDING motorist has
been fined.
James Paul Fiddler, 29, of
Robin Hey, Moss Side, Ley-
land, pleaded guilty to
speeding in a Rover car.
Magistrates in Preston
fined him £100 and told him
to pay the £15 victim sur-
charge.
He was given three penal-
ty points on his licence.
